MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER QUOTE SHEET
WEDNESDAY, JULY 20, 2005 - KANSAS CITY WIZARDS 1, D.C. UNITED 1
KANSAS CITY WIZARDS HEAD COACH BOB GANSLER
On the game:
"We had our opportunities in the first half, but we didn't capitalize on them, then we gave away a goal in the 44th minute. I thought in the second
half we put some things together, but it was very difficult to sustain
quality on both sides. It was two good teams and a tie is probably a just
result, it's not what we were playing for though. We feel if it weren't for
the brain fart in the 44th minute we would be smiling a bit rather than
talking about 'what if.'"
On D.C.'s goal in the 44th minute:
"We were trying to jam the ball and had too many guys in front of the ball.
Then we don't transition and those people who are responsible know, but it's
not about pointing fingers."
KANSAS CITY WIZARDS GOALKEEPER BO OSHONIYI
On the game:
"We kind of let down there for a minute, and they were able to counter us
and get one. Thank God for Scott Sealy, the scoring machine. He was able to
get another goal and get us a point here."
On D.C.'s goal:
I was shuffling over to make the save and then it hits the bottom of Nicky's
(Garcia) foot and throws off my timing a bit. Then it went under my foot when I was trying to make the kick save. It was just unfortunate. It sucks
that it happened right before halftime, but we were able to fight back and
get a point."
KANSAS CITY WIZARDS FORWARD SCOTT SEALY
On his knack for scoring goals off the rebound:
"That is the way it is supposed to be. I know the way (Chris) 'Kleiny' hits the ball,
he hits it really hard and I think if it's on target it and the 'keeper gets
a touch, it is going to rebound. I just need to be there to clean up
anything the 'keeper spills. That's what I had in mind and it worked out."
D.C. UNITED HEAD COACH PETER NOWAK
On the game:
"We should have won this game. Everyone in the locker room feels the same
way. We had chances and they had chances. We need to do a better job to
hold the lead and look for the second goal."
On the goal being called back:
"From my perspective when I saw the replay it was different. We had chances
to score goals and we need to finish those."
D.C. UNITED MIDFIELDER JOSH GROSOn his goal:
"I just touched it outside and took a shot and it got a lucky deflection, but
a goal is a goal."
On the game:
"We definitely had our chances for the win. It's an extra two points we really needed."
