PSV Eindhoven triggers option on US men's national team prospect Richie Ledezma

Richie Ledezma - PSV Eindhoven - contract extension

US men’s national team prospect Richie Ledezma has extended his stay with Dutch club PSV Eindhoven through at least the summer of 2022, they announced Monday.

Ledezma, a product of the Real Salt Lake academy system, originally signed with PSV in December 2018. That deal carried through the end of this season and carried a two-year option, which PSV triggered.

Ledezma, 19, is an attacking midfielder who was set to participate in Olympic qualifiers for the United States from March 20 to April 1 in Guadalajara, Mexico. He made the cut alongside 15 MLS players and fellow PSV youngster Chris Gloster, an outside back who played for the New York Red Bulls academy. However, the qualifying tournament was postponed by Concacaf on account of the coronavirus (COVID-19) global pandemic.

While Ledezma is yet to make his USMNT or Eredivisie debut, he’s shown encouraging signs at the youth level. The midfielder has played extensively for reserve side Jong PSV, plus featured at the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup while the US made the quarterfinal round.

Before heading to Europe, Ledezma featured for USL Championship side Real Monarchs. He’s originally from Phoenix, Ariz.
