Portland Timbers' unbeaten run reaches historic levels after win over Union

The Portland Timbers are a freight train at full bore at the moment, riding an historic hot streak in MLS play.

The side from the Rose City won again on Saturday night, comfortably defeating the Philadelphia Union3-0 at Providence Park to run their current unbeaten run in league action to 15 games (10-0-5).

That ties the Timbers’ franchise record in their MLS era, set in 2013, their first season under former head coach Caleb Porter, and extends what was already the longest unbeaten streak in the league this year. And with just 13 goals conceded in these 15 games, Portland are tied with Seattle for second-fewest goals conceded in MLS.

PTFC have for now climbed into second place in the Western Conference, pending the result of LAFC’s visit to the New York Red Bulls on Sunday, and are undefeated (7-0-3) in their 10 home games to date.

The 15-game run dates back to April 14, when the Timbers defeated Minnesota United3-2 in their 2018 home opener, and is all the more impressive given that they started the campaign 0-3-2 in a five-game season-opening road stretch necessitated by the first phase of their expansion of Providence Park.

Portland return to action on Saturday with a visit from their Cascadia Cup rivals Vancouver Whitecaps FC (11 pm ET | TSN1/4 – Full TV and streaming info).
