The Portland Timbers on Tuesday announced that the club has signed midfielder Sebastián Blanco to a multi-year contract extension to remain one of the club's three allotted Designated Players.

In three seasons since joining Portland in 2017, the 31-year-old Blanco has 29 goals and 32 assists in 108 appearances (102 starts) across all competitions – MLS regular season, postseason and U.S. Open Cup play. In all 2019 competitions, Blanco tallied seven goals and 13 assists over 35 appearances.

That followed a breakout year in 2018, when he had 10 goals and 11 assists in MLS play to earn Timbers’ Players’ Player of the Year and Supporters’ Player of the Year honors while helping the club reach the 2018 MLS Cup final.

His long-range effort in Portland's 3-2 victory over Sporting Kansas City in Leg 2 of last year's Western Conference Championship was the Timbers' Play of the Year.
