The Portland Timbers have officially acquired forward Jack McInerney from Columbus Crew SC in exchange for targeted and general allocation money, the club announced Wednesday.
“Jack is a rare pickup because of his reputation as a young striker who has scored goals in MLS,” said Timbers coach Caleb Porter in a statement. “We're extremely excited to have him join our club and look forward to his contributions. No doubt he will play a major role in various competitions in 2016.”
McInerney, 23, is expected to replace striker Maximiliano Urruti, who was picked up FC Dallas in last month's Re-Entry Draft.
McInerney arrives in Portland having last played with Columbus, who Portland defeated in the December’s MLS Cup, where he scored two goals in five games after being traded midseason from Montreal.

Since being drafted seventh overall by the Philadelphia Union in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft, McInerney has made 143 career appearances, 87 of them starts, in his six years in the league.
The Chattanooga, Tennessee native’s best season came in 2013 when he scored 12 goals for the Union. Among active MLS players, McInerney is the youngest with 38 or more career goals and ranks 24th overall on the career goal-scoring list among active players.
