Orlando City add reinforcements with Real Madrid product David Mateos, Swiss midfielder Adrian Winter

Orlando City SC are adding reinforcements to their inaugural season playoff push, announcing the signings of former Real Madrid academy defender David Mateos and Swiss Super League midfielder Adrian Winter.


Both players are expected to join the club in the coming weeks, pending completion their ITCs and P1 Visas.

“We are delighted to have David and Adrian join our Club,” Lions general manager Paul McDonough said in a club statement. “Both are well-versed players who will strengthen our backline and attacking third. We believe they’re solid additions to our club, who will make an impact right away.”


Mateos, 28, joins Orlando after climbing the ranks through Real Madrid’s youth system for nearly seven years, even playing alongside City captain Kaká, before moving to the Hungarian side Ferencvárosi TC in 2013. The defender made 40 appearances in Ferencvárosi – the most popular soccer team in Hungary – scoring seven goals. He helped them qualify for the 2015-16 UEFA Europa League after the club finished second in the 2014-15 Hungarian League.



Previously, the Spaniard spent the 2011-12 season on loan with AEK Athens in Greece and Real Zaragoza in Spain.


Winter, 29, an attacking midfielder has more than 200 appearances in the Swiss Super League and numerous UEFA Europa League features for FC Luzern, where he spent the previous five seasons. He has 15 goals in 130 league matches played with the club.
