Open Cup Final to be broadcast live on FSC

BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. - Fox Soccer Channel announced that it will offer live and exclusive coverage of the 2006 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Championship match, taking place on Wednesday, Sept. 27 from the Chicago Fire's new home, TOYOTA PARK, beginning at 7:00 p.m. CT. This year's championship match features the defending Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup and MLS Cup Champion Los Angeles Galaxy against the three-time Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Champion Chicago Fire.


After blanking D.C. United 3-0 on Sept. 6, the "Men in Red" move on to their fifth U.S. Open Cup Championship match in just nine tries, and its third Final appearance in the last four tournaments. The Fire hoisted U.S. Soccer's prestigious Dewar Cup in 1998, 2000 and 2003 and is considered the most successful MLS club in Open Cup history.


Fox Soccer Channel's Max Bretos will be on-site to deliver play-by-play commentary with expert analysis from Christopher Sullivan.


The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, the U.S. Soccer Federation's National Championship, is an annual competition open to all amateur and professional soccer teams affiliated with U.S. Soccer. Now in its 93rd year, the U.S. Open Cup is the oldest annual team tournament in U.S. sports history and among the oldest soccer tournaments of its kind worldwide.
