TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS:Re-signed

The New England Revolution have locked up a young piece of their core, announcing Tuesday that the club has re-signed defender Brandon Bye.

After starting 16 games in his 2018 rookie season out of Western Michigan, Bye established himself as a mainstay for the Revs in 2019, starting all 30 games he played, with his 2,657 minutes good for second on the team behind only Designated Player Carles Gil. He also made three appearances in Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup play and started New England's 1-0  defeat to Atlanta United in the 2019 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs.

Before getting drafted by New England eighth-overall in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft, Bye starred for Western Michigan University, winning the 2017 MAC Player of the Year and becoming the first-ever player from the school drafted into the league.

The fullback has shown himself to be a capable defender, but has also made the occasional contribution on the scoresheet, recording one goal and two assists in his rookie season before adding another two goals and two assists in 2019. Keeping Bye with the club allows the Revs to keep a young building block of their defense to go along with goalkeeper Matt Turner — who emerged as one of the best backstops in MLS this season — behind a potent attack that includes Gil and Gustavo Bou.

The length of the contract was not disclosed in the club's press release.
