What a moment for Nana Boateng.
The Ghanian midfielder waited until the 94th minute of Saturday night's 2-1 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes to score his first MLS goal for the Colorado Rapids.
And then he dedicated it to everyone else.
The former Manchester City and Stromsgodset man has worked two years and 1,544 minutes toward that first strike. He's tidy on the ball, tough in the tackle, and covers acres of space in the Rapids midfield. But the long-awaited goal had proven elusive.
"We just kept going and going, and finally we got the goal," Boateng said in his post-game interview. "I'm so proud of the boys. This week in training has been great, so I'm very happy to score this goal for the boys."
Saturday's victory marks two dramatic wins in a row for Colorado, just the second time this season they've won back-to back games. Now sitting on 6 wins and 23 points, the Rapids have an outside shot at sneaking above the playoff line if they can remain hot.
According to Boateng, it's been a long time coming.
"It's been a very long road for us this season," he continued. "But we came out here every single day and we trained very, very hard. And finally, we are getting the result we need. And I think its great for me and the boys and for the fans."
Colorado will look to make it three in a row mid-week when they visit the LA Galaxy on Tuesday night (10:30pm ET | TV & streaming info).
