The Montreal Impact announced on Wednesday that the club extended the contract of French center back Rod Fanni to the end of the 2018 season with a club option for 2019.

The veteran defender was originally signed on March 5 through June 30 after Zakaria Diallo suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon just before the start of the season and was scheduled to be sidelined for 5-6 months.

Fanni, 36, has started 12 games for the Impact, including each of the last six games, once earning MLS Team of the Week honors.

Before joining the Impact, Fanni had played 362 games in Ligue 1, including 330 starts, and 29,895 minutes through a 15-year career in the French first division, between 2002 and 2018, appearing successively for RC Lens, OGC Nice, Stade Rennais and Olympique de Marseille.
