MLS Preseason 2020: Vancouver Whitecaps top Minnesota United 2-1 on late Fredy Montero game-winner

Fredy Montero - Vancouver Whitecaps - tight shot

The Vancouver Whitecaps capped off preseason with a 2-1 victory over Minnesota United, with Fredy Montero scoring the game-winner in second-half stoppage time at Providence Park.

Though Vancouver won out, it was Minnesota who started nicely with a goal in the seventh minute. Kevin Molino cut the ball back from the goal line for Ethan Finlay to finish at the far post.

The tide turned in the second half, with the Whitecaps scoring twice. After VAR took away a first penalty call, Vancouver was awarded one in the 64th minute, which Lucas Cavallini converted ā€” yet another preseason goal for the club's top offseason acquisition.

The match seemed settled for a draw, but substitute Montero scored from a tight angle just before the final whistle, ending Vancouver's preseason on a high note.
