MLS Preseason 2020: San Jose Earthquakes top Reno 1868 FC 5-1

The San Jose Earthquakes bagged a convincing victory in their latest preseason match, topping USL Championship side Reno 1868 FC by a 5-1 scoreline on Tuesday.

Shea Salinas had a brace for San Jose, with Magnus Eriksson, Andres Rios and Chris Wondolowski adding a goal apiece to round out the scoring in the closed-door scrimmage, which consisted of four 40-minute periods.

Eriksson bagged San Jose's first of the day in the 33rd minute, winning possession at the top of the area and slotting home a finish to the far post.

Rios netted the second, finding the net off a feed from Tommy Thompson to double the advantage, before Reno managed to pull one back via a strike from Kevin Partida.

San Jose would regain control after that, however, with Salinas conjuring up his first of the match and Wondolowski drawing a converting a penalty kick to push the lead to 4-1.

Salinas would add a second before the final whistle, sealing the 5-1 final.

It's the second victory of the 2020 preseason for the Quakes, who move to 2-1-1 through four exhibition matches with the result. Matias Almeyda's side has one more preseason fixture to go before the start of the 2020 season — a Friday matchup against USL side Sacramento Republic FC.
