You know that expression about a cold day in hell? Well, the mayors in Ohio's two MLS cities are taking that expression literally.
Ahead of Saturday night's first MLS Hell is Real Derby between Columbus Crew SC and FC Cincinnati Saturday at MAPFRE Stadium (7:30 pm ET | MLS LIVE on ESPN+ in the US and DAZN in Canada), the city's mayors have made a wager of their respectively beloved local ice cream products.
Columbus mayor Andrew Ginther has agreed to send a shipment of his city's Jeni's Ice Cream to Cincinnati's Free Store Food Bank should FCC emerge victorious. In the event of a Crew victory, Cincy counterpart John Cranley will dispatch a load of his municipality's own Graeter's ice cream to the Mid-Ohio food bank.
Given the delicious stakes, we can only hope the official language in the wager reads, "the mayor of the city that doesn't win," and that the game ends in a mouth-watering draw. Ice cream for everybody!
