Massive dilemma: US Open Cup or USMNT in the state of Ohio tonight? | THE SIDELINE

Columbus Crew fans

What should Columbus Crew fans do on Wednesday night?

The all-time most popular debate in American soccer fandom rears its controversy-sparking head once again tonight for a handful of Major League Soccer fanbases, given the slate of seven US Open Cup matchups involving MLS teams and an international friendly against Belgium for the US national team.

Tonight, the tussle between club and country hits especially close to home — quite literally — for fans of the Columbus Crew. The 2002 winners of the Open Cup face USL Pro side Dayton Dutch Lions at 7:30 pm ET at Crew Stadium, which is only 30 minutes prior to and 142 miles from the kickoff of the United States vs. Belgium.

Let's say, then, that you're a Columbus native and Crew fan — even if you're not — are you going to watch the Crew in the Open Cup third-round matchup, or heading a couple hours north to see the Yanks take on a talented Belgium squad?
