Magee fined for missing training

New York Red Bulls forward Mike Magee was fined an undisclosed amount for missing a mandatory training session at Charleston Southern University on Monday morning.

Team officials did not approve Magee's absence from the practice beforehand. A Red Bulls committee comprised of veteran players levied the fine.

"Mike has been given the keys to the kingdom this year; unfortunately he misplaced them," said Red Bulls president and general manger Alexi Lalas. "I'm confident it won't happen again."

"Every player on this team is accountable to one another," said Red Bulls head coach Mo Johnston. "This type of behavior will not be tolerated."

Magee addressed his teammates at a team luncheon and apologized. No further disciplinary action is expected at this time.

The Red Bulls return to Carolina Challenge Cup action on Wednesday night when they play the Charleston Battery of the USL First Division at 6 p.m. ET in Charleston, S.C.
