Lionel Messi - FC Barcelona - Luis Suarez

TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Report

Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez reprising their FC Barcelona partnership in Major League Soccer? That’s a distinct possibility, according to a report from Cataluyna Radio.

The public radio network is reporting the world-class forwards are planning to link up at Inter Miami CF in 2022. They previously teamed up at the La Liga giants from 2014-20, often playing alongside Brazilian forward Neymar before he departed for Paris Saint-Germain, forming a fearsome South American trio.

The forwards are both 33 years old, with Messi reigniting headlines of an MLS move over the weekend when expressing his desire to play in the United States one day. The Argentine all-time great could soon leave Barca, with his deal ending in the summer of 2021.

As for Suarez, he’s currently at Atletico Madrid and under contract until 2022. That creates the possibility of a 2022 move, per Cataluyna Radio’s report, where the forwards could reunite in Miami as their esteemed careers wind down.

Even though Messi and Suarez would be in their mid-30s by then, it’d still be a remarkable coup by the Herons, who count David Beckham as co-owner and president of soccer operations. Those global connections have already paid dividends with a pair of former Juventus players – midfielder Blaise Matuidi and forward Gonzalo Higuain – coming to Miami after their own European club soccer endeavors.

Should Messi and Suarez indeed come to Miami during the club's third MLS season, it’d be quite the move – both from a marketing and on-field standpoint. The veracity remains to be seen, but murmurs are out there around an idea that may seem far-fetched to some and dream-worthy to others.
