LAFC striker laf will undergo surgery on Friday for facial fractures suffered in Sunday’s 1-0 win over the Seattle Sounders, the club announced on Tuesday night, sidelining the Costa Rican for at least a month and possibly much longer.

Ureña suffered the injury during a collision in the first half on Sunday, LAFC’s inaugural match at Banc of California Stadium. He’s started all seven of the expansion side’s games thus far this season and is the MLS co-leader with five assists, though he’s yet to score a goal.

A Los Angeles Times report suggested that the injury could jeopardize Ureña’s participation in the World Cup with the Costa Rican national team, but the timetable for his return appears unclear at the moment. According to LAFC, Ureña will be re-evaluated in four weeks.

Costa Rica open their Group E campaign at Russia 2018 with a match vs. Serbia on June 17, and are expected to gather their squad for a pre-World Cup training camp at the end of this month.

MLS Fantasy Impact: Consider Sebastian Giovinco ($9.0), Nemanja Nikolic ($9.4) or Hector Villalba ($8.9) as a replacement for Ureña. Start playing!
