LAFC dual-national homegrown trio called into Mexico U-17 national team camp

Christian Torres - LAFC - head up

Right back Erik Duenas, center back Tony Leone and forward Christian Torres â€“ the first three Homegrown signings in LAFC history – have been called up by Mexico’s U-17 national team.

All three players are 16 years old, with Torres making the greatest MLS inroads during the 2020 season. He logged eight appearances (two starts) for 212 minutes, which was highlighted by scoring a stoppage-time equalizer during a 1-1 draw at Portland last October.

Duenas logged a combined 34 minutes in two appearances off the bench, while Leone awaits his first-team debut. They were all born in southern California.

Leone has previously been called into various United States and Mexico youth national teams, while Torres represented the United States at the Concacaf U-15 Boys Championship in 2019.

LAFC’s academy originally launched in 2016 with a U-12 age group. They’re now part of MLS NEXT and have several age groups in the Southwest division.
