LAFC center back Danilo Silva undergoes surgery, out for season

LAFC defender Danilo Silva has undergone successful surgery on a lumbar disc injury in his lower back and will miss the rest of the regular season and playoffs, the club announced Wednesday.

The 32-year-old center back's season will come to close with just 222 minutes played over five MLS games (two starts) in 2019. Silva played in 10 games, starting nine, last season after he was acquired on loan from Internacional of Brazil's Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A. He scored his only career MLS goal to date in LAFC's 3-2 defeat to Real Salt Lake in the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs last season.

It's a blow to LAFC's depth ahead of the postseason, but the club still has a formidable duo in Walker Zimmerman and Eddie Segura that has proven capable of carrying the load. In the meantime, the Black & Gold will be looking to lock down their first Supporters' Shield in their Wednesday matchup with the Houston Dynamo at Banc of California Stadium (10:30 ET | TV & streaming info).
