LA Galaxy striker Gyasi Zardes named MLS Player of the Week following goal, two assists in Union rout

Gyasi Zardes' leading role in the LA Galaxy's 5-1 home destruction of the Philadelphia Union has been rewarded with Week 15 Major League Soccer Player of the Week honors by the North American Soccer Reporters.


The Galaxy's Homegrown striker set up Juninho's 35th-minute goal, then scored one of his own shortly after halftime to set off the rout before capping his fruitful night with another helper on Sebastian Lletget's strike in the 65th minute.


Zardes now has four goals and two assists on the year, while LA are now 3-1-2 in their last six league matches.



The defending MLS Cup champs return to action on Thursday as they welcome the Portland Timbers to StubHub Center in a nationally-televised Western Conference clash (11 pm ET; ESPN2, ESPN Deportes, WatchESPN in US | TSN2 in Canada).


The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from NASR. The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
