LA Galaxy 2, FC Dallas 3 | 2018 MLS Match Recap

FC Dallas continued to build their credentials as Western Conference contenders, as they defeated the LA Galaxy 3-2 at StubHub Center on Wednesday.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic made his return to the Galaxy lineup after serving a red-card suspension, and despite scoring two goals they came as a consolation after LA had won the last two games in a row.

Ryan Hollingshead opened his account for the season in the 33rd minute, finishing off a nice sequence of one-touch passes by FC Dallas along the edge of the 18-yard box. Hollingshead then set up the second goal, with a cross from the left that was headed in by Cristian Colman shortly before halftime.

It appeared the Galaxy had gotten back into the game just after the hour mark via Ibrahimovic, but the goal was waved off for offside. Minutes later, the Galaxy had two chances in quick succession off a corner kick, but Dallas' defense was up to the task, including a block off the line by Hollingshead.

But Dallas found paydirt with their very next chance, as Michael Barrios' shot forced a one-handed save from LA goalkeeper David Bingham, only for Carlos Gruezo to head home the rebound following a late run into the box.

The Galaxy found a lifeline with just over 20 minutes to go, as Ibrahimovic scored to break the home side to within two goals. The door opened a little more when Colman was sent off in the 80th minute after a scuffle with Michael Ciani. Ibrahimovic made them pay with a goal deep in second-half stoppage time to put Galaxy down just a goal, but the rally came up short in the end.

Three Things 

THE BIG PICTURE: The Galaxy were rolling heading into the match, and losing yet again at home -- they've lost more games at home than they've won -- is a reoccurrence of the poor home form that plagued them last season. Dallas will be riding high as they extend their unbeaten run to five games.

MOMENT OF THE MATCH
: At the time, Gruezo's goal looked to be the cherry on top of a rolling performance for FCD, but it turned out to be the game-winner. That it was his first goal in MLS is a bonus.

MAN OF THE MATCH: Hollingshead made just his fifth appearance of the season, but made it count, with a goal, an assist and a goal-line clearance for FC Dallas.
