Jesse Gonzalez added to US men's national team roster, Zack Steffen injured

Zack Steffen - Columbus Crew SC - 2018

Gregg Berhalter's roster for his team's March friendlies took a hit on Sunday. Columbus Crew SC goalkeeper Zack Steffen has been forced out =due to a minor knee injury. He will be replaced by FC Dallas 'keeper Jesse Gonzalez.

Both players have played every minute of their club's first three matches, and faced each other on Saturday in the Crew's 1-0 win over Dallas at MAPFRE Stadium.

Gonzalez filed a one-time change of association to represent the US in June 2017, and the 23-year-old was included in the knockout phase roster of the 2017 Gold Cup-winning US side. Still in search of his first cap, Gonzalez appeared on the roster for the US’s 1-1 draw against Portugal on Nov. 17, 2017.

Steffen has registered eight caps started both of the US's matches after January camp. Berhalter will have to turn elsewhere when the US will face Ecuador on March 21 and Chile on March 26. Both matches will start at 8 pm ET and be televised on ESPN2, UniMás and UDN.
