Irishman Earls back in camp with Colorado

Danny Earls is eager for a fresh start on the back line in Seattle.

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. – The Colorado Rapids have recently welcomed Irishman Danny Earls back into training with sights on shoring up the team’s depth on the left side of the defense.

Earls was traded by the club after their MLS Cup performance last season along with defender Julien Baudet to Seattle, but Earls was eventually waived by the Sounders and began working out again with the Rapids on March 1.

Rapids head coach Gary Smith described the chance of Earls re-signing for the team as “speculation,” but said he was happy Earls was back in the fold and certainly did not rule out such a possibility. Earls and defender Anthony Wallace battled for the starting spot on the left side of the back line last season befor Wallace won the nod down the stretch.

Smith has also said he and his staff remain interested in 22-year-old left back Martin John of Cardiff City.

Earls told MLSsoccer.com last week he was happy to be back in Colorado after a difficult period in Seattle, and said he would see how things work out but that he was eager to sign a contract with his old team.
