Hobbled by hamstring, Geoff Cameron to miss USA friendly vs. Ecuador

CONCACAF Cup - US - Geoff Cameron - Chasing the ball

Geoff Cameron will miss the US national team’s friendly against Ecuador on Wednesday night as he continues to recover from a hamstring injury.

US national team manager Jurgen Klinsmann told reporters at camp in Dallas on Tuesday that Cameron will miss Wednesday’s match at Toyota Stadium (8 pm ET; ESPN2, UniMas, UDN).

Cameron, 30, arrived to national team camp in Miami last week carrying the injury, which he picked up in Stoke City’s English Premier League finale on May 15. He did not travel with the USMNT for their 3-1 friendly win at Puerto Rico on Sunday, and will sit-out Wednesday’s match in Dallas.

If healthy, Cameron is the favorite to serve as starting center back for the US, although he has been tasked previously with roles at right back and central midfield under Klinsmann.

He’ll have one more chance to get some match action before the US opens the Copa America Centenario on June 3 against Colombia, as the Americans will take on Bolivia in a friendly in Kansas City, Kansas on Saturday night (8 pm ET; FS1, UniMas, UDN).
