Gringo Report: Corona, Tijuana drop to Blanco

Cuauhtémoc Blanco with Irapuato

Irapuato forward Cuauhtémoc Blanco (above) was too much for Joe Corona and Tijuana to handle on Saturday, as the ex-Chicago Fire star’s brace downed the defending Mexican second-division champs 2-0.

Corona went 65 minutes in midfield, but couldn’t help get the Xoloitzcuintles offense going as they dropped an away result and fell to sixth place in the table.

Elsewhere in the Liga de Ascenso, Marco Vidal played 76 minutes at holding mid on Sunday as León traded leads with Lobos BUAP before finally securing a victory with an 83rd-minute winner. The win keeps second-place Panzas Verdes just two points off the pace with league-leading Irapuato.
