Frisco successful in hosting MLS Cup

Just more than three months after the public was welcomed into Pizza Hut Park for the first time, the entire world was given a glimpse of the awe-inspiring beauty and potential that America's newest soccer specific stadium has to offer. An overflow crowd of 21,143 showed up at Pizza Hut Park on Sunday for MLS Cup 2005, and ABC Sports broadcast the game to more than 120 countries worldwide, giving millions of people the chance to be a part of the magic that encapsulates Pizza Hut Park.

The game was a tense affair throughout with neither side able to break down the other in the game's opening 90 minutes. Goalkeepers Matt Reis for New England and Kevin Hartman of Los Angeles were each called on to save their side on a series of occasions in regulation, with each keeper producing time and again. However, in a single-game Cup Final of this magnitude, there would need to be a winner and it would take a moment of brilliance from one man to settle the score.

Late in the first half of extra time, Reis punched a Landon Donovan corner away from the heart of his box. However, the ball would only fall as far as Guillermo "Pando" Ramirez who collected the ball 18 yards from goal and volleyed a left-footed shot into the Revolution goal, giving the Galaxy a 1-0 lead that they would not relinquish, and their second MLS Cup Championship in team history.
