When it comes to Designated Player signings, New York City FC's Frank Lampard hasn't yet had a chance to make his mark on the 2016 season. 11 weeks into the MLS season, he has yet to play a single minute.
But it appears that could be changing soon. According to a report from FOX Sports' Julie Stewart-Binks, Lampard is close to making his return. The 37-year-old midfielder trained ahead of NYCFC's 2-1 win over the Portland Timbers on Sunday and could be available for selection as early as NYC's midweek match against Toronto on Wednesday.
Lampard returned to limited training last week, working off to the side during team practices. But now it appears he is fully integrated with the squad.
The former England international reportedly spent part of his recent rehab in England and met with Chelsea's medical staff, Chelsea coach Guus Hiddink told reporters over the weekend.
NYCFC face Toronto on Wednesday (7pm ET, MLS Live), before hosting the New York Red Bulls on Saturday as part of Heineken Rivalry Week (3 pm ET, FOX).
