Dallas fans won’t get to see Young Designated Player Aníbal Chala for a least another year.
On Tuesday, FC Dallas announced that the Ecuadorian left back will remain with Ecuadorian club LDU Quito on loan throughout the 2018 season, keeping an international spot and a DP spot open this year.
Chala signed with Dallas in December 2016 as a highly touted young defender, before being diagnosed with a sports hernia injury during the 2017 preseason. The 21-year-old returned to Ecuador to rehab and was officially loaned to Quito last May. Chala made 19 appearances in the Ecuadoran first division last season, logging nearly 1,700 minutes.
From 2013 to 2016, the defender made 116 league appearances for Ecuadorian first-division side El Nacional. He’s also been capped six times by Ecuador’s U-20 national team.
