FC Dallas head coach Schellas Hyndman admits team's results are "deserving" of negative fan reaction

FRISCO, Texas – As soon as the final whistle sounded on FC Dallas' 4-2 loss to Columbus Crew on Sunday evening, the home fans in the north end supporters’ sections loudly voiced their displeasure with the result.

Boos were easily audible throughout the stadium and represented a culmination of the fan frustration that has been building for weeks as FC Dallas’ league-topping sprint out of the gate has slowly eroded to an eighth-place position in the Western Conference and an increasingly likely chance of missing out on the playoffs.

“I think our results are deserving [of the reaction],” Hyndman told reporters after the match. “Not just tonight, but the results we’ve been having. At the end of the day, it’s all about the results and we’re not getting them.

“I think results, not playing well, whatever it is, I think the fans need to hold us [to a higher standard], as we should be holding ourselves higher.”

Hyndman felt that his team was fully prepared for the game and said that there was a lot of enthusiasm in the locker room ahead of the match. But Columbus’ high pressure, clinical finishing and their counterattacking speed gave his team problems that they did not have enough answers for – particularly former FC Dallas man Dominic Oduro.

“We always knew he had speed and enthusiasm and desire to make those vertical runs endlessly.  I think he’s getting to that point now where he’s playing with so much more confidence and he’s becoming productive,” complimented Hyndman. But unfortunately for the home side, that production sparked what is ultimately a devastating defeating for Dallas.

“I think it’s a terrible loss for us,” admitted Hyndman.  “We realize that we’ve got to get points and...for us to get in the playoffs, we need at least three wins. Now we’ve got four games to do it.”
