SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San Jose Earthquakes will honor star midfielder Darren Huckerby in a pregame ceremony on the field before their game this Saturday, Oct. 3 against the New York Red Bulls at 8 p.m. PT at Buck Shaw Stadium. The first 5,000 fans in attendance will also receive a Supercuts Darren Huckerby Day player card, along with a Supercuts Earthquakes roll-a-banner.

Huckerby burst on to the MLS scene in July of 2008 and was the key component to the Quakes' revival that season. His immediate impact on the field pushed San Jose towards the playoffs, as his play helped lead to a nine game unbeaten streak.

The Nottingham native played in 14 games in 2009 and scored three goals and notched three assists. He scored six goals and tallied four assists in his 14 games of action in 2008, on his way to becoming the MLS Newcomer of the Year. He also won the team's most valuable player award, and took home the Budweiser Golden Boot for the Earthquakes. His best run of play came last September, when he took home MLS Player of the Month honors with a three-game stretch that saw him find the net three times and also notch an assist.

Huckerby joined the Earthquakes after a successful run with English side, Norwich City. He played for the Canaries from 2003-2008 and helped lead them to the Premier League in 2004 for the first time since 1995. The Englishman played in over 200 matches for Norwich, scoring 48 goals and was named the club's player of the year twice.

Other stops in his career were with Manchester City (69 appearances and 22 goals), Leeds United (40 appearances and two goals), Nottingham Forrest (Nine appearances and five goals), Coventry City (94 appearances and 28 goals), Lincoln City (28 appearances and five goals), and a brief loan to Newcastle United (one appearance).
