Dynamo acquire Bobby Boswell from D.C.

Bobby Boswell was introduced as a member of Houston Dynamo Thursday.

Houston, TX (Wednesday, December 12, 2007) - The Houston Dynamo has acquired defender Bobby Boswell in exchange for goalkeeper Zach Wells and a conditional pick in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft, it was announced today.

"We are delighted to add a player of Boswell's caliber to our organization," said Dynamo head coach Dominic Kinnear. "Adding depth on the backline was an off-season priority, and we are pleased to have accomplished that with such an outstanding player. I think he will be excellent addition to our team on the field, in the locker and in the community"

Boswell joins the Men in Orange after playing his first three seasons in the league with D.C. United. The 24-year old played in 80 games, with 78 starts, as a member of the Black-and-Red. Boswell has scored four goals and registered four assists in his career. He comes to Houston with a very strong resume. In 2006, the Tampa, FL native was an MLS All-Star, honored among the MLS Best XI, and recognized as the MLS Defender of the Year. Boswell was also recognized as one of the 50 Hottest Bachelors in the November 2006 issue of Cosmopolitan Magazine.

"Parting ways with Zach was a very difficult decision. We would like to thank him for his hard work and dedication to our organization. As a young and talented goalkeeper, and a class individual, we know he has a bright future ahead of him. This is a great opportunity for him, and wish him nothing but success with D.C. United," added Kinnear.

Wells joins D.C. United after capturing two straight MLS Cups as a member of the Dynamo. The 26-year old made four appearances (three starts) during this last MLS campaign, earning two shutouts, a 0.32 goal-against average, and compiling a 2-0-1 record. He also competed in four CONCACAF matches and one U.S. Open Cup match in 2007. Prior to his time in Houston, the Costa Mesa, CA native spent two seasons with the MetroStars (now known as the New York Red Bulls). While there, he appeared in 19 games (all starts), collected four shutouts, and put together a 6-6-4 record. Wells has one cap for the U.S. Men's National Team, making his international debut as a second half substitute in a 4-0 win over Guatemala on February 19, 2006.

The Houston Dynamo will open its regular season play on Saturday, March 29, 2008 against the New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium. They will then open their home schedule on Sunday, April 6, against intrastate rival FC Dallas.
