DC United 1, New England Revolution 2 | 2020 MLS Match Recap

The New England Revolution struck for a pair of first-half goals sandwiched between a 46-minute severe weather delay to defeat D.C. United, 2-1 at Audi Field.

The Revs earned their first multi-goal game of the season to extend their unbeaten streak to six matches, while the offensive struggles continue for D.C. United, who are now winless in five having scored just once in their last three games.

A minute after being denied by a diving Bill Hamid, Gustavo Bou put the Revs in front in the 26th minute. The Argentine Designated Player picked off an Edison Flores attempted clearance after a New England corner kick and he fired a low shot that skipped past Hamid inside the near post.

After a 46-minute delay due to severe weather, an unmarked Teal Bunbury doubled the Revs' advantage in the 38th minute, heading home an Alexander Buttner corner kick from 12 yards out.

D.C. United pulled within a goal on a 72nd-minute penalty kick by Ola Kamara after Buttner was ruled to have handled the ball in the box following Video Review.

The Revs ended with 10 men after Scott Caldwell was sent off for a straight red card for serious foul play following Video Review of a high challenge on Felipe in the 83rd minute.

In the first of 10 minutes of stoppage time, Revs goalkeeper Matt Turner leapt to his left to rob Kamara of what looked like a sure equalizer and secure all three points for the visitors.

Three Things

THE BIG PICTURE: Both teams came into this game offensively challenged, but the Revs made the most of a pair of corner kicks to get their goals. It’s more of the same for United, with Ben Olsen forced to make injury substitutions for Russell Canouse and Edison Flores and another game without a goal in the run of play.

MOMENT OF THE MATCH
: Turner was great throughout (more on him below) but this spectacular save secured all three points for the Revs early in second-half stoppage time.

MAN OF THE MATCH
: Turner was aggressive off his line early and often, he made that game-altering save to deny Kamara (above) in the 91st minute, he was the calming presence in a backline that was shaky at times. Also, this distribution was ridiculous.
