Columbus Crew SC's Zack Steffen wins May MLS Player of the Month

Zack Steffen - Player of the Month - May 2018

Columbus Crew SC goalkeeper Zack Steffen was voted the MLS Player of the Month presented by EA SPORTS™ by members of the media for the month of May.

The 23-year-old did not allow a single goal in five matches in May, with Crew SC compiling an undefeated 3-0-2 mark over the month as part of an active eight-game unbeaten streak. Steffen’s active 495-minute shutout streak is the ninth-longest for an individual goalkeeper in MLS history, the longest in Columbus history, and was the eighth-longest shutout streak for a team in the league. The seven shutouts posted by Steffen this season lead the league, helping Columbus to a current third-place standing in the Eastern Conference with 26 points (7-3-5 overall record).

The 2016 summer signing made 17 stops during that stretch, including a six-save performance in a gritty 1-0 away win vs. the New England Revolution on May 19.

Steffen was called in to to the US men's national team last week but did not play in the US' 2-1 loss against Ireland. He is likely to feature in Saturday's friendly against France in Lyon (3 pm ET | ESPN).

Steffen will miss Crew SC's next match on Saturday at the New York Red Bulls (5 pm ET | ESPN — Full TV & streaming info), but is likely to return for a tough trip to Atlanta United on June 13 (7:30 pm ET | TV & streaming info).

MLS Player of the Month presented by EA SPORTS™ is voted upon by a panel of select national media members in a process conducted by MLS Communications.
