Lalas Abubakar - Columbus Crew SC - Shouting celebration


Columbus Crew SC have reached a new contract agreement with center back Lalas Abubakar, who will return for his third season, and exercised the contract option on eight other players, ensuring the core of a solid 2018 squad returns.

Crew SC exercised the options on goalkeepers Jon Kempin and Ben Lundgaard, defenders Alex Crognale, Connor Maloney, Gaston Sauro and Josh Williams, as well as midfielders Luis Argudo and Niko Hansen.

Columbus also announce conversations are ongoing to secure left back Milton Valenzuela, who was on a one-year loan from Newell’s Old Boys in Argentina.

Meanwhile, Crew SC declined options of goalkeeper Logan Ketterer, midfielders Ricardo Clark, Mike Grella and Cristian Martinez as well as forward Adam Jahn, though Columbus are in discussions with Clark.

“2019 roster preparations are ongoing, and together with our returning players we look to add new talent that can execute our style of play and position the team to return to the postseason,” said Crew SC sporting director and coach Gregg Bethalter, amidst constant rumors of what could be his imminent move to coach the US men’s national team.
