Chris Wondolowski wins MLS Player of the Month pres. by EA SPORTS for May

To put it simply: May was Wondo season.

After the San Jose Earthquakes striker scored six goals in just 203 minutes of play during May, breaking the all-time MLS career scoring record in the process, Chris Wondolowski was voted the MLS Player of the Month presented by EA SPORTS by members of the media, the league announced on Monday.

And that in itself marks another milestone for Wondolowski: It’s the seventh time in his career he’s won MLS Player of the Month honors, the most ever in league history.

As part of every MLS Player of the Month award this season, EA SPORTS FIFA 19 will release a special FUT item to honor the winning player, this month recognizing Wondo for his tremendous month. Wondolowski can be unlocked via a special Squad Building Challenge now live in FIFA 19 Ultimate Team.

After going goalless in his first 10 appearances of the season, only the first four of them starts, Wondo returned to the starting XI vs. the Chicago Fire on May 18 and exploded for four goals in a 4-1 Quakes win, in the process ending “Wondo Watch” as he broke Landon Donovan’s MLS record of 145 career goals.

That result not only kicked off a four-game unbeaten run for San Jose, it sparked Wondolowski’s scoring form back to life. A week later his banged in a match-winning brace in a 2-1 road win over Toronto FC, and he's kept scoring in June, with a goal apiece in the Earthquakes' two matches thus far this month.

He and the rest of the Quakes return to MLS action with a visit from the Houston Dynamo on Wednesday, June 26 (10:30 pm ET | MLS LIVE on ESPN+ in US, MLS LIVE on DAZN in Canada).

MLS Player of the Month presented by EA SPORTS is voted upon by a panel of select national media members in a process conducted by MLS Communications.
