The Chicago Fire have cause for concern after center back Johan Kappelhof limped off the field in the 25th minute of Tuesday night's Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup match against Saint Louis FC.

Kappelhof, who had already been yellow-carded for a handball when isolated against Albert Dikwa, was replaced by second-year pro Grant Lillard, a Fire Homegrown Player, who had been recalled from loan prior to the game. Kappelhof has started 15 of 16 MLS games for the Fire this year and has made at least 29 league starts in each of his first three seasons.

Playing on the road at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri, Chicago trailed 2-0 when Kappelhof departed, allowing headed goals to Saint Louis FC's Austin Martz and Guy Abend.

Stay tuned for further updates on Kappelhof's status.
