Charlotte FC Forward Patrick Agyemang Named MLS Player of the Matchday presented by Michelob Ultra for Matchday 15

NEW YORK (Tuesday, May 27, 2025) – Charlotte FC forward Patrick Agyemang was voted the Major League Soccer Player of the Matchday presented by Michelob Ultra for Matchday 15 of the 2025 MLS season.

The U.S. Men’s National Team forward powered Charlotte to an important 3-2 victory against Eastern Conference contender Columbus Crew, tallying twice in five minutes to pull his club ahead after an early deficit (Watch MLS Wrap-Up Discuss Agyemang’s Performance Here). With the brace, Agyemang became the second player in club history to record multiple multi-goal games, joining former forward Karol Świderski. After 57 games with Charlotte, the 24-year-old is already second on the team’s all-time scoring list with 16 goals, trailing only Świderski’s 28. He burst onto the scene last season with 10 goals and five assists and is now riding a hot streak, netting five goals in his last six games across all competitions. The forward was one of six MLS players called to the USMNT’s June training camp that scored this weekend.

Agyemang’s brace boosted Charlotte to its first MLS win since April 19, snapping a five-game losing streak and pushing the club to eighth place in the Eastern Conference standings. The victory also ended Columbus’ 11-match road unbeaten run, one of the longest streaks in league history.

After falling behind in the 15th minute, Agyemang responded swiftly with an equalizer in the 19th off a corner kick. Midfielder Pep Biel whipped a ball into the box and the forward met it at the near post, tucking a glancing header into the right side of the net (Watch Here). He added another just five minutes later, polishing off a beautiful through ball from forward Wilfred Zaha. The Ivory Coast international slid a pass through a number of defenders and Agyemang timed his run perfectly to get on the end of it, driving downfield to face Columbus goalkeeper Nicholas Hagen one-on-one and slotting it to the far-right post (Watch Here).

It's Agyemang’s first Player of the Matchday award and the fourth for Charlotte FC since the club launched in 2022. This season, Pep Biel took home the club’s other weekly honor after producing one goal and two assists during a 4-1 win vs. the San Jose Earthquakes on Matchday 5.

The MLS Player of the Matchday presented by Michelob Ultra is selected each matchday of the regular season through both media and fan voting in a process conducted by MLS Communications. A panel of journalists from the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) comprises 75 percent of the vote, while an Instagram fan vote represents the remaining 25 percent of voting. NASR consists of members of print, television, radio, and online media.
