Charlie Davies, David Gass pick their 22 Under 22 five-a-side teams on Extratime

Danny Leyva - Seattle Sounders - intense look

The best young MLS players were spotlighted on the most recent episode of Extratime, with David Gass and Charlie Davies opting to pick their five-a-side teams from all players eligible for this year's 22 Under 22 contest.

Davies went with the Philadelphia Union's Mark McKenzie and Anthony Fontana, the LA Galaxy's Efrain Alvarez, Inter Miami's Robbie Robinson, and the New York Red Bulls' Omir Fernandez.

Gass also picked Alvarez, but otherwise had a different team from Davies. HIs other four picks were FC DallasPaxton Pomykal and Ricardo Pepi, Atlanta United's George Campbell, and the Seattle Sounders' Danny Leyva.

Gass was full of praise for Leyva, noting how he saw the player at the Generation Adidas Cup. Like Weston McKennie, Paxton Pomykal, and Gio Reyna before him, Gass called Leyva the best player in the tournament the year he was there, and believe he has similar potential to the other young Amiercans.

"Danny Leyva was as good compared to everyone else as Gio Reyna and Paxton Pomykal were the two years before him," he said, "so I've gotta trust what I've seen, and if those guys stood out at that level and were able to go on and perform, I think Danny Leyva will as well. He can play both ways, he does work defensively, but he's clean on the ball."
