Caserta, Castillo lead Lecce to first win

Second-half strikes from Fabio Caserta and Jose Castillo gave Lecce their first win of the season at the Stadio Via del Mare.

Caserta headed the opening goal two minutes after half-time before substitute Castillo notched his first ever Serie A goal to ensure a comfortable win.

In the battle of the newly-promoted teams the play-off winners never looked like surrendering the points to Serie B champions Chievo.

Daniele Cacia had the first clear-cut opportunity of the game for the home side after 10 minutes. The lively youngster was a constant thorn in the visitor's side, but on this occasion headed narrowly wide from Luca Ariatti's corner.

Chievo were unfortunate not to take the lead after 17 minutes when Vitorino Antunes' free-kick sailed over the bar after Andrea Mantovani had fouled Tiziano Polenghi on the edge of the box.

Simone Tiribocchi then thought he had opened the scoring against his old club in the 19th minute, but the former Chievo striker was adjudged to have been offside.

The incident shocked Luca Campedelli's men into action and Siqueira Luciano blazed Andrea Mantovani's cross over the bar in the 25th minute as the visitors nearly took the lead.

They came close again a minute before the interval when Midfielder Vincenzo Italiano fired in a trademark 20-yard screamer which deflected off a Lecce defender for a corner.

Chievo's stout defending frustrated the home side in the opening period as they utilised the offside trap to great effect. However, their hard work was undone just two minutes into the second period.

A hopeful punt forwards found Ariatti, who headed across goal for Caserta to tap in from close range. The midfielder's was then booked for excessive celebrations.

Michele Marcolini could have equalised five minutes later when he shot from long range, but his left-footed effort sailed high over the bar.

The Giallorossi threatened to add to their tally when Guillermo Giacomazzi found Ariatti on the right wing, only for the Italian's cross to be scuffed wide by Cacia.

The former Atalanta man controlled the game from midfield and nearly found the net himself after he cut in from the left wing and narrowly missed with a powerful low shot.

Substitute Castillo replaced Cacia after 63 minutes and settled the game with his first goal in the Italian top flight.

Tiribocchi's pass picked out the former Pisa forward who calmly chipped goalkeeper Lorenzo Squizzi.

Chievo came close to a consolation goal in stoppage time when Erjon Bogdani headed across the box for substitute Emanuele D'Anna, but the 26-year-old's effort from 12 yards was easily saved by goalkeeper Francesco Benussi.
