It was one of the prettiest team goals scored in MLS Week 19, and now it’s the AT&T Goal of the Week winner.
Hector “Tito” Villalba’s goal against the Philadelphia Union has cruised to a dominating victory in this week’s poll, garnering a whopping 83 percent of votes cast. Particular credit is also due to his attacking mates on this triumph, however.
Atlanta United’s tic-tac-toe combination play carved open the Union defense to ice a 2-0 road win for the Five Stripes on Saturday, with Miguel Almiron and Josef Martinez linking up to leave Villalba with a simple tap-in at the back post, his third league goal of 2018.
Villalba’s strong showing left precious few votes for the other four contenders; Darwin Quintero’s scintillating chip earned 9 percent, followed by Zlatan Ibrahimovic (4%), Sebastian Giovinco and Tony Tchani (both at 2%).
Villalba, Almiron and Martinez return to action on Sunday, when the Seattle Soundersvisit Mercedes-Benz Stadium in a nationally-televised clash (2 pm ET | FOX, TSN – Full TV and streaming info).
