Atlanta United's Josef Martinez scores in record 13th straight MLS game

Another game, another goal for Josef Martinez.

The sizzling striker scored in a 13th straight MLS game for Atlanta United, finishing a pretty give-and-go with Darlington Nagbe right before halftime of Saturday’s road match vs. the Philadelphia Union.

Martinez, who now has 18 goals in that stretch, already had the MLS record all to himself with goals in 10 straight contests but continues to build on it. His streak now stands alone the third best in the world, behind only Tor Henning Hamre (15 straight league games for Estonian club Flora Tallinn in 2003) and Lionel Messi (21 straight league games for FC Barcelona in 2013-14).

The goal was the 23rd of the season for Martinez, second only to LAFC’s Carlos Vela (27), and the 73rd of his three-year MLS career.
