In Major League Soccer’s inaugural 1996 season D.C. United donned what is widely considered a classic MLS jersey.
The same colors and classic theme are back for the club’s 25th season.
The three white stripes that were a distinctive feature of that first all-black jersey in 1996 will now run over the right shoulder and the red will appear on the sleeves.
As one of the league’s charter clubs, the new home shirt will feature the silver nine-star “Founding Club” mark along with the other standout elements of the kit: “D.C. United” in white lettering on the back neck and a “Unite the District” jock tag on the front.
D.C. United won the league title in that first 1996 MLS season and they’ll kick off 2020 hoping for a return to the success of those glory days when they kick off the first match of the new league season at Audi Field against the Colorado Rapids on Saturday, February 29 (1 pm ET).
