Toronto FC have reportedly offered a $15 million, three-year contract for River Plate forward Santos Borre, according to the latest from UOL Esporte, but they're also reportedly facing stiff competition from Brazilian club Palmeiras, the reigning Copa Libertadores champions.

Borre could extend his stay with the Argentine Primera Division powerhouse club, of course, though the 25-year-old Colombian is also reportedly keen on moving to Europe.

It's not the first time that Borre has been linked to Toronto FC, so there’s been smoke around a big-money move to the Reds. His River Plate contract is set to end in June 2021, too.

Should Borre come to Toronto, he’d bring an esteemed club résumé that includes a loan to Villarreal while he was on Atletico Madrid’s books. He turned pro at Deportivo Cali in his native Colombia and now has 46 goals in 127 matches across all competitions for Los Millonarios.

Borre, who has two caps with Colombia’s national team, would give Toronto another big-name forward alongside Jozy Altidore. They also have one of the league’s bright young stars in Ayo Akinola, plus there’s attacking midfielder Alejandro Pozuelo, the 2020 Landon Donovan MLS MVP.

Toronto, heading into their first year with head coach Chris Armas, have an open Designated Player spot. The other two are occupied by Altidore and Pozuelo.
