Report: Real Salt Lake pursuing loan for Corinthians midfielder Mateus Vital

Mateus Vital - Corinthians - Brazil

Real Salt Lake have approached Corinthians to acquire attacking midfielder Mateus Vital via a loan for the 2021 MLS season with a purchase option, according to a report in Brazilian publication Globo Esporte.

Vital, 23, is a former Brazil youth international who developed at Vasco da Gama before moving to Corinthians in 2018. Across 143 club appearances, he’s scored 10 times and handed out six assists. Vital can play centrally or out wide and won a pair of Campeonato Paulista titles while at Corinthians.

Given that track record, Corinthians reportedly value Vital at a higher price than Real Salt Lake have initially proposed. But the Globo Esporte story adds that the midfielder is open to an MLS move, so perhaps the Claret and Cobalt could come to terms for Vital.

Real Salt Lake are seeking a return to the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs in 2021, with midfielders Damir Kreilach and Albert Rusnak key pieces in their offense. They also signed former US men’s national team forward Rubio Rubin and traded away Corey Baird to LAFC.
