TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing
D.C. United have signed defender Michael DeShields, the club announced Friday. DeShields was selected with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2021 MLS SuperDraft presented by adidas.
DeShields, 22, made 60 appearances with Wake Forest during his time in college, starting all but one of his games played. He was named to the Second-Team All-South Region in 2019.
“Michael impressed us with his physicality, athleticism, and composure on the ball during his time with Wake Forest," GM and VP of soccer operations Dave Kasper said in a club statement. "We are adding important depth at center back and we’re excited that we were able to acquire someone of Michael’s pedigree in the draft. We are looking forward to welcoming Michael to the District.”
