TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Loan

CF Montréal have acquired midfielder Ahmed Hamdi on loan from Egyptian club El Gouna FC, the club announced Thursday.

The loan will be completed upon reception of his international transfer certificate and medical examination, and will include a player purchase option.

An Egyptian youth international, Hamdi started his career in Egypt with Al Ahly, where he also played his youth soccer, before joining El Gouna in 2019.

He joined Al Ahly's first-team in 2018, scoring two goals and adding three assists in 18 games before getting loaned to El Gouna for the 2019 season, putting up seven goals and three assists in 42 Egyptian Premier League games.

“We are very pleased with the acquisition of this young U-23 international,” CF Montréal sporting director Olivier Renard said in Thursday's release. “He is a player with attacking qualities, who can play as a box-to-box midfielder or higher up as an attacking midfielder. He's very skilled technically and can provide that final, decisive pass. We hope he will confirm what we saw in him, so that we can keep him with us for several years.”
