New England Revolution re-sign goalkeeper Matt Turner

Matt Turner - New England Revolution - September 19, 2020

TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Extension

Goalkeeper Matt Turner will be staying with the New England Revolution, signing a new contract with the club after a standout 2020 season.

Turner was a key part of the Revolution's successful 2020 season, which saw them make a run to the Eastern Conference Final in the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs. Turner had seven MLS clean sheets in all competitions last season, and had the fifth-most saves of MLS goalkeepers in 2020 with 68 saves. The performances earned him a nomination for last year's Goalkeeper of the Year, and he finished second in the vote behind the Philadelphia Union's Andre Blake. He was also named the Revolution's MVP in 2020.

Turner's consistency with New England earned a spot with the US men's national team for their annual January camp for a second year running.

Turner has been with the Revolution since signing for the club as an undrafted free agent in 2016. His breakout season with New England came in 2018, and he has been the team's starter in goal since.
