Atlanta United star Josef Martinez posts positive update as he nears injury return

Josef Martinez – Atlanta United – kneeling celebration

Josef Martinez has spent almost a year now rehabbing from the knee injury that cost him the entire 2020 MLS season, and the Atlanta United superstar forward is getting ever closer to a return to action.

Martinez took to his personal Twitter account to give fans an update on the progress he's made from the torn ACL he suffered back in February, right as Atlanta was beginning their 2020 campaign. According to Martinez, it's nearly all systems go as he eyes a return to the field in time for the start of the 2021 season.

It's a good sign for Atlanta fans who are eagerly awaiting the return of the standout forward, who will be looking to pick up his historically torrid goal-scoring pace when he does make his return. Martinez has put up eye-popping numbers at a remarkably efficient rate since joining the Five Stripes, putting up a ridiculous 77 goals in 84 games, cementing himself as one of the very best strikers in league history.

There's still a ways to go before the start of the season, but new Atlanta coach Gabriel Heinze will no doubt be encouraged to see his best player on the mend and, hopefully, ready to help spearhead a bounce-back campaign in 2021.
