Portland Timbers owner Merritt Paulson spikes Radamel Falcao rumors

Radamel Falcao - Galatasaray - goal celebration

The silliest of silly season transfer rumors has quickly been put to bed.

Colombian forward Radamel Falcao was linked with a move to the Portland Timbers, despite the club having a number of forwards and no Designated Player spots open. Club owner Merritt Paulson saved the suspense and spiked it on Twitter.

There you have it.

Falcao, who turns 35 in February, has been linked to MLS at various points, including in 2020 when he said that he wants to play forInter Miami CF.

Portland have US men's national team forward Jeremy Ebobisse and Designated Player Jaroslaw Niezgoda as current options up top, though Niezgoda is still recovering from an ACL tear. Meanwhile, MLSsoccer.com reported last week that Portland were finalizing a deal to keep Chilean international Felipe Mora after a successful loan from Liga MX club Pumas.

The Timbers currently have all three DP spots taken in Niezgoda, Sebastian Blanco and Yimmi Chara.

Falcao plays for Galatasaray in Turkey, where he's scored 16 goals and contributed three assists in 31 matches. He was previously at Ligue 1's AS Monaco in recent years, while his playing career began at River Plate and includes stops at Porto, Atletico Madrid, Monaco, Manchester United and Chelsea along the way.

Falcao has scored 291 goals throughout his club career and another 34 in 89 appearances with Colombia's national team.
