Six MLS players training with Peruvian national team ahead of preseason

A healthy contingent of MLS players have reported to training in Peru, with the dual goal of ramping up their fitness ahead of the start of the MLS preseason and staking their case for a call-up to the Peruvian national team's World Cup qualifiers.


Six MLS players have reported to the Peruvian Soccer Federation's facilities and have undergone physical evaluations, according to a Monday post on the federation's official website.


Those players are Orlando City SC goalkeeper Pedro GalleseNew York City FC defender Alexander Callens, Portland Timbers midfielder Andy Polo, San Jose Earthquakes defender Marcos Lopez and the D.C. United attacking duo of Edison Flores (pictured above) and Yordy Reyna. The group will train with their country until they have to report back stateside for the start of MLS training camps.


Gallese has the most career senior caps among the group, as the standout Orlando City backstop has accumulated 66 since making his debut in 2014.


Peru will return to action on March 25 when they resume their World Cup Qualifying group stage matches, first traveling to face Bolivia in La Paz before a home matchup in Lima against Venezuela.
